went to Fort Lewis for the 1st SF reunion. During the meeting we discussed and passed a donation to the
Veterans Cemetery for a brick on the walk of fame, with 16 words that all that were present agreed upon. I hope
those that were traveling had a successful trip and that all went Well Vaughn and Mike should be able to report
on their trip to Fort Lewis, and any new stuff they make have been privy to see.
I would like to see our here from our members in the 19th, on what is going on, we would like to keep in touch and
here about your progress, also those working some civilian jobs over their let us know how things are going, we
would like to add it to the news letter as long as it doesn't compromise Anything This brings up another subject

Eastern members on what is going on with them?

shock Darlene, by making her work. Their are SF types drifting around out there, so lets keep our eyes and ears

WORDS FROM THE PRESIDENT OF THE CHAPTER

OPINION POLLS
If our lives or our decisions were based on the results of opinion polls none of you would be reading this today
because there would have been no Special Forces. Had you taken an opinion poll of Army leadership in the early
days (50’s) of Special Forces they would have been almost unanimous in disbanding that small band of “Snake-
eaters and Swamp Rats” who were stealing the cream of the crop of airborne NCO’s. Operation Longhorn in late
1951 was designed to see if large-scale airborne operations were still a valid military option or a thing of the past.
When we (the 508 Abn. RCT) jumped into Texas in gusts of 42 MPH the resulting deaths and serious injuries left
the brass with the opinion that airborne ops were a thing of the past – and that opinion still prevails today.
So, today we seemed to be governed by opinion polls, whether it’s on global warming or the newer climate
change, or the approval rating of congress or the President, or whether the war in Afghanistan or Iraq are going
well, or when our troops should be forced again to turn tail and abandon the war zone.
My reading of Scripture (the Bible) is that God gave us a mind that He expects us to use – a key to successful
SF Ops and to a Christ pleasing life. We don’t seem to learn from history. If we did, we’d remember that as a
result of opinion polls the Israelites wanted to stone Moses in the wilderness because they blamed him for a lack
of public services (water and meat) and because they thought Pharaoh’s army would destroy them. Yet he led
them for 40 years to the Promised Land. King David fled for his life because the latest opinion polls favored his
son, Absalom, as King. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were thrown into a fiery furnace because they went
up against the majority opinion that they should pray only to the King and bow down to his image. They chose to
bow down only to the Living God of Scripture and God delivered them much to the amazement of the King and his
cabinet.
The greatest miscarriage of opinion polls, of course, was the demand of a Jewish mob, urged on by their
religious leaders to “crucify him, crucify him” – to crucify Jesus Christ the Son of the Living God and their
promised Messiah or Savior. Fortunately there were those who never gave up on Him just as there were some
who never gave up on the idea of Special Forces.
Ultimately, the only opinion poll that we need to worry about and that is going to count for eternity is God’s and
He tells us in His Word “to BELIEVE on the Lord Jesus Christ and WE WILL BE SAVED”. You can take that
opinion to the bank and cash in on it but do it before it’s too late. Don’t simply “follow” the crowd. Think for
yourself and act on it. At least that’s my opinion.
