THE NEXT MEETING IS ON FEBRUARY 5TH AT NOODLES AT 1900 HOURS.

A tip of the Beret to those that made the meeting and drove home on the ice rink, let’s make a note that the
meeting will be back at normal time and date. Let’s have a good turn out as there are several things we need to
go over and discuss. One being our knew knife that I'm taking bids on, it is the new 1st group knife that the
Reeves donated to the chapter. I will take the bids on my e-mail at jlyfr2@aol.com, I believe due to bad weather
and my input for the Dec newsletter is out in space somewhere, we will go tell March on these bids prior to the
March meeting.
Vaughn and Zoe are in Haiti until March or 1st part of April we wish them well. I would also like to give a big tip of
the Beret to Ken for bringing Bernie to the Jan meeting we and Ken never know when Bernie is available to grace
our meeting, he will be going with his son to Korea shortly to see his other son at Pusan, which is in better shape
than it was 55 plus years ago. It will be interesting to hear from Bernie when he returns, which is a better reason
to make all the meetings. There are new personnel out there lets round them up and bring them to the meeting.
Remember DUES are do prior to the 31st of the month so send them to Bob. This is a good reason to be a life
member. Further if the dues are not in then there is a late fee of five dollars so add that to your dues. Let’s have
a big turnout at the next meeting. Gerldine our waitress enjoyed her Christmas bouquet.

WORDS FROM THE PRESIDENT OF THE CHAPTER

ROADS
Driving down Haiti’s main highway, Route 1, to our hospital in Dessalines (95 jarring miles and 4-41/2 hrs. –
depending on how many flats from the capitol, Port-au-Prince) reminds me of Route 1 from Hue to Da Nang
except that with the UN patrolling it there’s a little less chance of running into an unexpected ambush. There are
however plenty of wrecked vehicles littering the roadside. I was reminded too of how similar life is to our highways
and country roads.
At times our lives are smooth as a baby’s bottom and we can roll along at full speed though there are always
“speed limits”. At other times, especially in combat, or going through a death, divorce, or serious illness, it is
rough, bone-jarring, potholed, or seemingly almost impassable except with 4 wheel drive and a high center.
The road of life may also be fraught with seen and unseen hazards: slippery when wet, icy, high winds,
detours, no-u-turns, or one way only.
The road can be straight as an arrow, winding, narrow or wide, or, like some mountain roads, corkscrew until
carsickness forces you to the side of the road.
The Bible also talks about roads. Saul (later the Apostle Paul) on the road to Damascus, met Jesus Christ
face to face and it changed his life (as it could yours). The religious elite displayed their lack of mercy and
compassion for a man robbed, beaten, and left half dead on the road from Jerusalem to Jericho. Only the
outcast, the second class citizen, the Good Samaritan stopped to offer and provide immediate and long-term care
for him. Jesus died for us after traveling the road from Jerusalem to the place called “The Skull” where He freely
allowed Himself to be crucified for our sins rather than call down legions of armed angels to save Himself. He
traveled that road for you and I. What other deity can claim that?
The Bible teaches us through so many lives that to get from point A to point B successfully on whatever road
we decide to follow a reliable map or GPS. For us as soldiers it could mean life or death (think of the 507th. and
Pfc. Jessica Lynch in Iraq) or the success or failure of our mission. On an A-Team we follow the Point Man to find
our way. Jesus Himself said, “I am The Way, (i.e. the route to follow), no man comes to the Father (God the
objective) but by Me”. There may be many roads or trails up a mountain, but Jesus points out that only ONE
leads to the top. His motto, like that of the Infantry School at Fort Benning is “FOLLOW ME”. Good advice if you
want to arrive safely at the Pearly Gates and be waved on through. Remember, there are no U turns after death.
As always, the choice is yours.

I got this in a e-mail from a friend He sent it to Ted_Hyde@Fiberpipe.net (HINT HINT HINT)
"A woman stopped by unannounced at her son's house.
She knocked on the door then immediately walked in
She was shocked to see her daughter-in-law laying on
the couch, totally naked. Soft music was playing, and
the aroma of perfume filled the room.
"What are you doing?" she asked.
"I'm waiting for Mike to come home from work," the
daughter-in-law answered.
"But you're naked!" the mother-in-law exclaimed
"This is my love dress," the daughter-in-law
explained.
"Love dress? But you're naked!"
"Mike loves me to wear this dress," she explained. "It
excites him to no end. Every time he sees me in this
; dress, he instantly becomes romantic and ravages me
for hours on end. He can't get enough of me"
The mother-in-law left.
When she got home, she undressed, showered, put on
her best perfume, dimmed the lights, put on a romantic
CD, laid on the couch waiting for her husband to
arrive.
Finally, her husband came home. He walked in and saw
her laying there so provocatively.
"What are you doing?" he asked.
"This is my love dress," she whispered, sensually.
"Needs ironing," he said. "What's for dinner?
He never heard the gunshot... "
