WORDS FROM THE PRESIDENT OF THE CHAPTER

PRIORITY LISTS
I think that the most significant thing about a new year is that we’ve survived the old year and, by the grace of
God, we have the opportunity to do something worthwhile with our lives in the new year. It’s an opportunity to
evaluate the talents and resources God has given us and determine how they can best be used for our personal
growth, our spiritual growth, and how they can be utilized in getting out “the Good News” to “our world” ~ the
“breaking news” that Jesus Christ has done for us what we could not do for ourselves or by ourselves –
forgiveness of sins, sin – the wall that separates us from the God who created us and loves us.
I think of a missionary doctor who can’t return to a small hospital in Haiti desperate for doctors because funds
aren’t available. I think of a missionary couple training Chilean pastors being forced to return to the states
because of a lack of funds. I’ll be working in Haiti with a couple who have served there for 17 years providing
schooling and support for over 9000 kids and a daily meal for over 19,000 school children but who may have to
return to the States because of a lack of financial support. Yet, at the same time Paul Allen of Microsoft donates
25 million to find life in outer space and a member of the Walton (Wall-mart) family makes a losing bid of 68 million
for a single painting for her new museum. I’m not sure that when they stand before God (as we all will) that His
words to them will be “Well done thou good and faithful servant. You have wisely used the resources which I’ve
entrusted to you”.
Jesus made it a priority to complete His mission ~ to die in our place rather than call in legions of angels to free
Him from Herod’s or Pilate’s soldiers as He could have. He, like the young marine or young soldier in Iraq
throwing himself on a grenade to save the life of his buddies, or the young Navy Seal LT. exposing himself to
overwhelming enemy fire in Afghanistan to save his fellow Seals, saw a greater priority than preserving his was to
save the lives of those he loved.
I’d rather follow their “PRIORITY LISTS” than the priority lists of so many: to focus on themselves, their
accumulations, their toys, pleasures and their bank accounts or nest eggs none of which they can take with them
into the grave. Maybe it’s time to take a look at your priorities and make up a “Revised Edition”.
God Bless you

"From 1558 until 1829, Roman Catholics in England were
not permitted to practice their faith openly. Someone
during that era wrote this carol as a catechism song for young Catholics.
It has two levels of meaning: the surface meaning
plus a hidden meaning known only to members of their church. Each
element in the carol has a code word for a religious reality
which the children could remember.
-The partridge in a pear tree was Jesus Christ.
-Two turtle doves were the Old and New Testaments.
-Three French hens stood for faith, hope and love.
-The four calling birds were the four gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke & John.
-The five golden rings recalled the Torah or Law, the first five books of the Old Testament.
-The six geese a-laying stood for the six days of creation.
-Seven swans a-swimming represented the sevenfold gifts of the Holy Spirit--Prophesy, Serving, Teaching,
Exhortation, Contribution, Leadership, and Mercy.
-The eight maids a-milking were the eight beatitudes.
-Nine ladies dancing were the nine fruits of the Holy Spirit--Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness,
Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self Control.
-The ten lords a-leaping were the ten commandments.
-The eleven pipers piping stood for the eleven faithful disciples.
-The twelve drummers drumming symbolized the twelve points of belief in the Apostles' Creed.
So there is your history for today. This knowledge was shared with me and I found it interesting and enlightening
and now I know how that strange song became a Christmas Carol...so pass it on if you wish.'
Merry (Twelve Days of) Christmas Everyone....."
Here is a funny that I thought we can all laugh at.
